Murder charges to be dismissed against brothers

DETROIT (AP) - Murder charges that put two Detroit-area brothers behind bars for 25 years will be dismissed, a prosecutor said.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Talon is expected Thursday to officially dismiss the case against Raymond and Thomas Highers, county prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

Talon ordered a new trial for the brothers last year and let them out on bond after new witness testimony suggested they may have been misidentified in the 1987 slaying of 65-year-old Robert Karey in his east side Detroit home.

"I don't think you can ever make up for 20 years behind bars," Silver added. "You can't give them back their lives. There is nothing that can make up for it."
